It depends on whether or not the modern technology is provided to the teachers to begin with. Those that keep harping on the need to teach through technology are preaching to the choir. Most teachers want to use technology but are unable to do so because they have not been provided with Smarboards, classroom computers, accessible websites and most other tools needed to take advantage of the technology out there. Very frustrating. How easy it is for Bill Gates to criticize teachers for not utilizing the fact that students have cell phones and incorporating their obsession with texting into student learning? Does he not realize that we would if we could? That most teach in counties where cell phone use in school is prohibited?

    Reflection 5A
To allow teachers to choose not to integrate technology is to choose to fail our students. Teachers quickly grow accustom to their personal comfort areas and are extremely reluctant to try new technologies. Perhaps it’s fear of failure. It could be a situation where teachers are not confident in their abilities to teach from a technological perspective. Maybe teachers fear that their students know more than they do. No matter the reason, unless teachers consistently grow and learn and keep up with our digitally native students, we won’t be able to meaningfully instruct our students.

    Reflection 5A
No. I still believe that we need to teach students how to learn. We need to teach them critical learning and questioning strategies in order to make them successful. If we want students to succeed in our ever-changing global economy, we MUST give them the appropriate tools and EXPERIENCES to do so. Even if we, as educators, aren't able to attain the knowledge to utilize the modern technologies, we must let our students explore modern technology. We need to make them aware!
